Irish Men and their Mammies

This article has been written from my experiences with my Matchmaking and Introductions agency, One2One Introductions.  So please don’t shoot the messenger. Also, I’m the original born again poacher turned gamekeeper. Now read on…. Mammy knows best. I blame Irish Mammies for it all. From the time we were Mommies Little Soldier we’ve been pampered, put on a pedestal and told that there’s “no one good enough for my son” and so we’ve grown up actually believing it. By the time we’re finished school and college and have entered the big bad world of commerce and earning a wage we’ve become so used to our elevated status in the natural pecking order of life that we tend to look at women as being “ONLY women” and “Sure what would THEY know anyway? Aren’t we the greatest thing since sliced bread”? We therefore expect too much from dating because we…………. A…think

While you were swiping

The internet, for all its naysayers and prophets of doom, has transformed the way people work and communicate. It has turned entertainment, retail and health industries from boom to bust and back again. But its biggest and most profound effect has been on the single (sic) biggest decision that most people will ever make—choosing that someone special. In those fast walking days of the 1990’s when people actually talked to each other, the idea of meeting a partner online seemed alien, freakish, sad, and not a little pathetic. In today’s brave new world of hunter gathering by swiping right, all those pathetic, alien freaks are considered, sadly, normal. Smartphones have put virtual stadiums full of meeting places in people’s pockets, where singleistas can mingle free from the constraints (and fun) of social intercourse or physical geography and safely roam without fear of failure. It’s the ‘now now next next’ society where

Busy..adjective :having a great deal to do: toiling at: labouring away: wrapped up in: occupied, engaged in.. Everyone is stressed these days..work work work, home, drama lessons for the hamster, doggy obedience school, oh god I forgot about the kids, Baltazar needs his Ulysses translated into Hebrew before lunch, then there’s Origami, Gym, Pilates with mon personnel trainer Gerry, walking the goldfish, Facebooking, Tindering, Instagramming, Tweeting, thinking, contemplating life.. Whoever invented the 24 hour day certainly wasn’t born on social media that’s for sure Sherlock. .. we’re all busy…. So busy in fact, that the very idea of taking time out to look for a significant other just doesn’t bear twerking about. And anyway, they’d have to get up earlier than Leo Vadakar to hang out with me. I’m just too busy being busy these days! Romance? Google get a life ..I know…I’ll join an online dating site! The Ikea of email order brides and men without scruples is just a swipe away (as

Even if it is 2018, there’s actually matchmaking and introduction agencies out there in the real world that attempt to find you potential matches without using the internet, or rely on algorithms or randomly pick names from a database obtained by a Cambridge Analytika… Quell surprise! Matchmaking and Introduction services now make it easier to find that someone special! How is this possible? Simples……. By meeting them the ol’ fashioned way-face to face. These agencies give you a personal service. It’s perfect for today’s busy singles who are having a difficult time meeting someone in real life.  They offer an unparalleled personal service and furthermore, potential singles are all screened, interviewed and verified by a real person.. This is where and why One2One Introductions score well.  Dave Merren, the energetic, personable and very experienced owner has a fresh and friendly approach

What the online dating sites don’t want you to know!

Its late January 2018…and you’re still sifting through the “alternative facts” (or as we in Ireland like to call it, lies) of online or internet dating, hoping to find Mr or Ms Right and right now, aren’t you? And what’s wrong with online dating? It works …..sometimes. You may even know a friend or three who found their lid fitted the other’s saucepan. But there’s a secret those online dating sites( Plenty of Fish and Match.com and Elite Singles, OK Cupid and Another friend to name but a few)don’t want you to know. You see, the online dating sites work much like the lottery. They pull in thousands of people with the hope of winning money. Along the way, they let a few people win. Those winners invariably tell all their friends, and those friends go play the lottery thinking and hoping they’ll win too. What the lottery doesn’t want

LMFM’s Betty Clarke recently interviewed a man who’s mission in life is to turn singles into couples. ….’I just haven’t met you yet’…. “Matchmaking, for all its old fashioned and traditional values happens to be the new pub culture” says David Merren, owner of One2One Introductions. “It’s last year’s little black number and it’s this years fidget spinner. “Already we see people being much more open and brave about declaring that they met through a dating service, so gone are the days when a couple who had met through us would tell everyone they met in a Pub!” “This is 2017…not 1917… the days of dowries and selling off your first born for a heifer and a couple of acres are happily consigned to history- These days it’s a Porsche and a Leinster season ticket”! “Our clients (and by the way we don’t have many clients because if we did

Online dating and dating apps are designed to give zillions of singles the chance to find dates on their own terms. It’s instant gratification for the “I want it and I want it now “generation. The swipe attitude sums up today’s busy, Iphone attached at the lip generation singles who want to find someone, anyone, a partner, a lover, a soul mate so long as it’s this instant! However, despite the phenomenon of online dating which is used by almost 60% of singles, it’s actually, quite bizarrely, helping and encouraging the growth of one sector: Matchmakers! Why? My own view(well, I am a Matchmaker) is that because a lot of singletons are becoming totally disillusioned by computer algorithms –It’s a real case of “from Algorhythms to zero confidence in 3 dates” for some and it replaces human judgment, with many suffering from dating overload. It’s the kid in a sweetshop

Day 1 in the ‘I just haven’t met you yet’ house…… ‘This online dating lark is the Bees Balearics! It’s soo easy, casual and you don’t have to dress for dinner, sloppy Joes and PJs are de rigueur, 5 o clock shadows sans make up and even my hair’s a mess but sure who knows’? See, I decided to join Ok Cupid Match me with plentyoffish.com (I loved their logo ‘Cast yer net in the sea of love” I joined (only euro35 a month), put my profile up and while I may have fake newsed just a tad regarding my age, weight  and what I do for a living, the rest is all true(ish). My hook is ‘Let’s have a whale of a time’ and already surf’s up..I trawled  20 messages, 123 winks and 4 marriage proposals AND I haven’t even put my photo up yet! It’s the kid in

What we do on or before dates that maybe we really shouldn’t! Let’s face it.. whether you’re a newbie to all this or have even had a date or two in the not too distant past, going on a date can be a total head wrecker! A date SHOULD be fun, enjoyable and perhaps have that ‘let’s do this again feel about it and who knows where it will lead to..but what about the what if’s and maybe’s and if only’s so the following should be taken with a strong coffee and a pinch of salt. To Google or not to Google? Everybody Googles everybody! And while it’s fine to get some little background about him or her before a date sometimes a little knowledge is a VERY dangerous thing. I had a bizarre situation where I arranged a date with …let’s call them Frank(Abernathy for confidential reasons!) and Mary.

What if this is as good as it gets?

In today’s social media driven mad world of Online Dating sites , ONE2ONE INTRODUCTIONS stand out from the crowd. Why? Because we’re NOT an online dating site! Now read on…. Dating is supposed to be fun – meeting new people, going to exciting places, that spark, that frisson of where things just might lead to…However, reality bites bitterly. After the initial first bloom of hope and expectation  you believe these apps resemble a sweet shop-Wow..’are all these for me’…sadly reality bites. This isn’t exactly ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ and soon you’re believing  you’re working in a sweat shop; traumatic, time consuming and getting nothing out of it! Online dating sites and apps  are full of an never ending algorithm of babbled dialogue with mono syllabic replies fed by the genuine, the lonesome, the cheating and the gullible who trawl through a sea of profiles (coz there’s plenty of fish out there)
